As part of the environmental restoration and landscape adaptation works in the Urko valley, jointly promoted by Sopela City Council and URA (Basque Water Agency), the construction of new paths in the area will commence in the coming weeks.

This minor work aims to connect the recently built wooden walkway and the trails currently being created by URA, so that both paths are joined by a section of adequate granular surface. This comprehensive action includes the creation of a new urban wetland over an area of 10,000 square meters (near the municipal sports center and Ugeraga football field) to improve the ecological value between the Gobela and Lemotza rivers. The project includes a permanent water body of over 3,000 square meters, designed with various depths and shelters for waterfowl, amphibians, and insects.
The project seeks to increase local biodiversity by restoring native Atlantic forest vegetation and removing invasive species. Furthermore, the creation of new pedestrian paths aims to integrate this natural space into Sopela's urban fabric, offering citizens accessible surroundings to enjoy nature.
