In Galdames, Bizkaia, Loizaga Tower blends medieval history with automotive luxury, featuring Europe's most complete Rolls-Royce collection, now open to the public.

Since the 14th century, Loizaga Tower has stood in the Encartaciones as an ancient defensive stronghold of the Ochoa García de Loyzaga lineage. This site, thirty kilometers from Bilbao, was rescued from its ruins by businessman and collector Miguel de la Vía, who undertook a monumental reconstruction starting in 1985 that spanned decades.
Upon the remnants of the old tower, twenty-five meters of new walls were erected, complete with loopholes, openings, and battlements, restoring its medieval character. The addition of a wall with turrets, a barbican, and a drawbridge completed a recreation now recognized as one of the cultural heritage jewels of Bizkaia.

"75 vehicles distributed across six pavilions, three of which are entirely dedicated to Rolls-Royce. The 45 units of the British brand make the museum the most complete collection in Europe and one of the few places on the planet where all models of the Phantom series manufactured until 1972 can be seen together."

The Rolls-Royce series is complemented by about thirty European and American vehicles that trace the evolution of the automobile from its beginnings. The Ford T, the first mass-produced vehicle, shares space with sports cars like the Ferrari Testarossa and the Lamborghini Countach, as well as elegant 1930s sedans from brands such as Hispano-Suiza, Isotta, and Bentley. All cars are maintained in perfect working order and ready to be driven at any moment.
Open to the public since the year 2000, the museum has been nominated for the "Best Museum of the Year" award by the specialized magazine Octane, establishing itself as a unique and worthwhile collection to visit.
Loizaga Tower, with its impressive Rolls-Royce collection, can be visited without prior reservation on Sundays and national holidays, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, through an unguided tour. General admission is 9€, 4.50€ for retirees and young people up to 14 years old, and free for children under 6. During the rest of the week, it only opens with prior reservation for groups, offering a private guided tour with a minimum cost of 180€ (up to 18 people) and 10€ for each additional person. Additionally, special visits for clubs, associations, or companies are organized upon request on the Loizaga Tower website.
Beyond Loizaga Tower, Galdames offers a comprehensive plan for a getaway: visitors can explore hiking trails through forests and old mills, visit the Ordunte reservoir, or natural areas like Atxuriaga Park or the Aguas Juntas Dam, ideal for relaxation or a picnic. The municipality also stands out for its mining past, visible in caves like Arenaza or in remnants of exploitations, as well as its historical heritage, with centuries-old churches and medieval towers. All this is complemented by the opportunity to enjoy typical gastronomy in an authentic rural setting.
