The incident occurred around 00:50 on Sunday during an argument. An emergency service call reported that a young man had been assaulted with a bladed weapon in the Elexalde neighborhood, near the festival grounds. The victim, an 18-year-old Spanish national, sustained several wounds to his leg, abdomen, and chest, requiring hospitalization.
After medical attention was provided and witnesses were interviewed, local police located the suspect in a nearby street. The assailant, a 16-year-old of Latin American origin, had blood on his hands and was subsequently arrested. The local police informed the Ertzaintza (Basque Police), who will take custody of the minor until he is brought before the court.
This marks the second stabbing incident reported in Bizkaia this weekend. On Saturday morning, during the San Juan neighborhood festival in Muskiz, a young man was arrested by the Ertzaintza for assaulting another with a knife during an argument.
The victim in the Muskiz incident, a 22-year-old Spanish national, suffered a back wound and was taken to Cruces Hospital. Hours later, a patrol located the alleged assailant, a 20-year-old Spanish national, and arrested him. The Ertzaintza received the report of the stabbing at 00:40, and upon arrival, the injured party was found lying on the ground with bystanders applying pressure to his back wound.
