The Leioa City Council has urged its citizens to join the third and final phase of the Kirolur Challenge. This initiative, promoted by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, aims to foster physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits. The autumn league will take place from September 23rd to October 23rd, allowing Leioa to compete once again against other participating municipalities to become the most active locality in Bizkaia.
After the spring and summer phases, the challenge now faces its final stage of the year. In total, the challenge has already gathered over 5,301 participants from 63 municipalities in Bizkaia, and throughout the year, more than a million active kilometers have been registered across the different stages.
This initiative is part of the celebration of Bizkaia as the European Territory of Sport 2026, aiming to promote accessible sports practice for all citizens. To achieve this, Kirolur transforms participating municipalities into teams, enabling them to earn points through physical activity registered via the Wellk application.
The Kirolur Challenge is structured into three leagues throughout the year: spring, summer, and autumn. After completing the first two, the counters reset to zero for this final phase, ensuring all municipalities have equal opportunities to reach the top rankings.
Individuals who have already joined the Leioa team in previous phases do not need to re-register; they simply need to continue logging their activities. New participants can join for free before the competition begins. Participation is open to anyone over 14 years old, regardless of whether they are registered residents of Leioa. Anyone with a connection to the municipality can choose Leioa as their team and contribute to the classification.
Interested individuals must download the Wellk application, available for iOS and Android devices. After registering, they need to select the Leioa team in the challenges section. From there, they can record their physical activity using the app's GPS or by syncing devices and applications such as Strava, Garmin, Fitbit, Health Connect, or Apple Health.
In addition to contributing to Leioa's ranking, participants who achieve at least 300 activity points are eligible for official challenge merchandise, while supplies last. Furthermore, if Leioa ranks among the top municipalities, the City Council will receive funds designated for the acquisition of sports equipment for local clubs.
The Leioa City Council encourages citizens to join this final phase and to take advantage of the post-summer return to routine to regain or maintain physical activity. Every activity counts, and every kilometer can help Leioa advance in the Kirolur standings.
