Specifically, the maintenance of two lines is requested. Firstly, the restoration of the stops removed on the Bolue (Villamonte) and Arene streets of the Bizkaibus A3422 line (Areeta/Las Arenas-Berango), as they serve people living in the upper part of Algorta who wish to go to the Artea shopping center. Secondly, they request the maintenance of the A338 line, which connects Muskiz and Getxo, up to the Areeta stop; this line has been established between Muskiz and Barakaldo-Ansio, leaving Getxo and Leioa without service and removing direct transport for Getxo residents to a large part of the left bank.
In addition, the City Council has also requested the creation of a direct Bizkaibus line between Getxo and the airport. Currently, to travel from municipalities such as Portugalete, Santurtzi, Sopela, Berango, or Leioa to the airport, transfers must be made in Bilbao or Barakaldo. The City Council denounces that this significantly increases travel times, making it difficult to use public transport for journeys related to flights, work, or tourism.
According to the City Council, the only alternative is to use private transport, but this also causes traffic problems, such as on the Avenida de Sagrada Familia or the Txorierri Corridor, especially in municipalities like Getxo, with approximately 77,000 inhabitants.
Finally, the City Council argues that with these requests, it is betting on making Getxo a tourist destination, "leveraging its historical heritage, beaches, and enclave." This bet, in turn, requires easy access to the airport via public transport.
