Getxo Joins 'Circo a escena' Circuit with Five Shows from May to November

The municipality strengthens its commitment to circus arts, scheduling six performances at Geltokia square in Areeta and Muxikebarri.

Getxo will participate for the first time in the 'Circo a escena' circuit, organized by the public network Red Escena, featuring five shows and six performances scheduled from May to November at Geltokia square in Areeta and Muxikebarri.

With this initiative, Getxo reinforces its dedication to circus arts, an performing discipline that is gaining increasing importance in the municipal cultural offerings, as reported by city council sources. The objective of the 'Circo a escena' circuit is to enhance the presence and visibility of circus in the programming of public scenic spaces, providing the audience with a diverse program that encompasses multiple trends and styles.
After evaluating the quality of proposals from various municipalities, the project organizers have decided to approve Getxo's submission. As part of the initiative, Getxo Kultura will finance the contracting of the aforementioned shows, receiving a grant of 12,100 euros for this purpose.
This year's program will commence on May 9 with the show Gota, combining clowning and magic, at Geltokia square in Areeta, as part of the 'Getxo Eszena Kalean' cycle. Within the same cycle, on June 9, Tenet will be presented, a work featuring eight acrobats and live music.
From September onwards, the programming will move to Muxikebarri. On the 26th of that month, Farra will be performed, a piece that revives carnival celebrations across three historical periods through magic, acrobatics, dance, and music. On October 4, the public will be able to enjoy the show Voa! by the award-winning circus company La Gata Japonesa.
To conclude the circuit, on November 29 and 30, Leandre Ribera's company will stage the show Fly Me to the Moon. The performance on November 29 will be open to the public, and the following day, students from Getxo's educational centers will have the opportunity to attend.
