The sovereignist coalition in Getxo has reported that the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country has ruled against the city council for poor contract management, resulting in an economic shortfall exceeding one million euros.

The sovereignist coalition held a press conference to denounce the lack of management capacity of Getxo's governing team. After several years of litigation, the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country, through sentence 422/2025, sided with an awarded company, compelling the council to pay a substantial amount.
According to the municipal intervention report, the city council will have to pay 369,557.29 euros solely for late payment interest. This amount is the result of an incorrect criterion applied for years in price revisions.

"Almost 400,000 euros are coming out of the pockets of Getxo residents to pay for the lack of management capacity."

According to the coalition, this money will not serve to improve street cleaning or renew containers, but is a sum lost due to the inability to manage a basic contract in accordance with the law.
In addition to the interest, the city council will have to pay 689,453.80 euros for “poorly executed” price revisions since 2015. In total, the bill for this management error exceeds one million euros, and the coalition has criticized that the governing team had to resort to the treasury surplus, thus using the savings of all residents.

"This money could have been allocated to social services or investments in the neighborhoods. Getxo deserves management that protects every public euro."
