The expansion and renovation works at the Urreta sports center in Galdakao are nearing their final stages. The City Council anticipates that the enhanced and modernized facilities will be "available to the public from autumn". To meet these deadlines, a "new push will be given to the necessary work" during the summer months.
To maximize progress, the Urreta sports center will be completely closed to the public between July 1 and August 31. This two-month closure occurs during a period of lower usage for the sports complex, as club seasons and competitions have concluded and it is also a holiday period.
Nevertheless, to ensure "the public can continue to use sports facilities during the summer", the City Council has implemented several alternative measures. One initiative is the increased activity at the Elexalde sports center, which will be open from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 22:00, during the second half of July. Additionally, the tennis and paddle courts at Zuhatzu will remain open throughout July, weekdays from 17:00 to 22:00.
Furthermore, the public service desk at the Urreta sports center will continue to operate during the first half of July. The offices will be open from 08:00 to 15:30 to manage "new membership registrations, information requests, and other administrative procedures".
Through this package of measures, the City Council aims to guarantee the continuity of sports services during the renovation period, maintaining opportunities for sports practice while preparing for the reopening of the revamped Urreta sports center.
