The Galdakao City Council has unveiled various initiatives. The contract to draft the project for a new bridge and roundabout connecting the Bekea neighborhood with the N-634 road has been awarded to Team Ingenieria y Consultoria SL for 285,000 euros. The project is expected to be completed by March 2027, aiming to improve neighborhood access, enhance road safety, and optimize the hydraulic capacity of the Ibaizabal River.
Additionally, work has begun today, August 31st, to widen sidewalks and renovate the pavement on Zuberoa street, which will last for three months. These works, carried out by UTE Belako Lanak, will maintain parking spaces, although parking will be prohibited on both sides of the carriageway during the construction period. Traffic will be temporarily diverted via Lapurdi street.
Furthermore, improvements to the electrical infrastructure on Txomin Egileor street have commenced, undertaken by I-DE Redes Eléctricas Inteligentes Iberdrola. These works will span eight weeks and will impact traffic and pedestrian flow, as a section of the carriageway will be prepared for pedestrians and vehicle circulation will be managed alternately.
Moreover, efforts to restore access to garages affected by a fire near Zubiaurretaurren street will soon begin. Following the acquisition of an Ertzaintza safety report, debris removal and structural stabilization work will be carried out, allowing residents to regain access in the coming weeks.
Galdakao's festivals will take place from September 11th to 20th, with team competitions being a central feature. This year will include three categories: the Main Competition (37 events), the Youth Competition (9 events), and a new addition, the Gastronomic Competition (five events). Registration will be open from September 2nd to 9th via the municipal website or at the Torrezabal Cultural Center.
