Border controls at the Port of Bilbao have become more agile, efficient, and secure with the implementation of a new automated system for travelers from countries outside the EU. This system replaces the manual stamping of passports with digital data, including biographical information, date and place of crossing, and biometric data such as facial images and fingerprints.
The primary goal of this modernization is to streamline the management of external borders, improve the detection of overstays, and enhance internal security. The Port Authority of Bilbao, the National Police, and the shipping company managing the ferries operating in the dock have collaborated closely on the deployment of this initiative.
