The CAESA car park in Erandio has reopened to the public following the removal of an infrastructure that caused great concern among residents. It was a tower approximately 15 meters high, disused and showing clear signs of wear and corrosion. Residents reported that its location, next to a playground, a common thoroughfare, and the car park itself, increased the risk.
In response to this situation, the Erandio Bizirik platform requested the City Council to remove the structure, considering it an "unnecessary risk". The City Council, for its part, stated that there was no imminent risk of collapse, but nevertheless asked the company responsible for the works to dismantle the tower to ensure safety. Finally, the intervention has been carried out, allowing the car park to reopen.
This area is of particular importance to the neighborhood, as the car park, located on the former CAESA plot, offers space for about 300 vehicles and was launched almost a year ago to alleviate the lack of parking in Altzaga. Taking advantage of the intervention, a height restriction barrier has also been installed at the entrance; from now on, vehicles over 2.20 meters will not be able to access.
Furthermore, the removal of the tower has brought the future of the area back into discussion. The land is currently owned by the company Viuda de Sanz, and an urban regeneration project of more than 350 homes is planned there, along with new public spaces and areas for economic activity.
