Bilbao held a minute of silence in solidarity with the people of Venezuela, following the critical 72-hour mark after the earthquake. Mayor Juan Mari Aburto, joined by various municipal groups, the central government's sub-delegate in Bizkaia, Carlos García Buendía, and the provincial deputy for Economic Promotion, Ainara Basurko, appealed for humanitarian aid that is "sustained over time".
The City Council has provided a space to the Consulate of Venezuela for collecting humanitarian aid, and the Civil Protection and Firefighters department has prepared materials for shipment. Aburto indicated that "initially, they requested material, and that is what is being offered," but added that human resources would also be provided if needed.
“"It is very important that it arrives in the initial moments, but also that it is sustained over time. Many resources of various kinds will be needed, material, economic, and human."
The mayor explained that "the most important human resources are currently arriving from the closest environments, and we remain expectant."
