Young people will have the opportunity to work in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through the Bizilabe initiative organized in Getxo. Under the slogan "Experiment, research, and develop creativity!", participants will undertake projects, experiments, and new challenges with the support of professionals expert in these areas. As explained by Aitziber Lasa, head of Elhuyar's Bizilabe program, the goal is to bring young people closer to the professional world and break down stereotypes surrounding science and technology, enabling girls in particular to envision their future in these fields.
Zaloa Campillo, a councilor from the Getxo City Council, highlighted that the initiative aims to open new opportunities for young people to discover "studies, professions, and life projects of great added value." Campillo emphasized that "technology has a future, and it must also be Basque-speaking, egalitarian, and inclusive," and encouraged families to enroll their children in Bizilabe.
The activity will take place between October 2026 and May 2027 at the Benta residence (Maidagan street, 53). Sessions will be held on Mondays, with two time slots to choose from: 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM or 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The standard fee is 45 euros; for large families or single-parent families, it is 30 euros; and for families receiving the Minimum Income Guarantee, it is 12 euros.
The first registration period will be open until July 6, and on July 10, admitted participants will be informed about the enrollment process. The second period will run from July 7 to September 22, with information provided to admitted participants on September 23. Registration can be done online via the Bizilabe website or through the form provided by the City Council.
