The Oneko Energy Community and the Fagor Group signed a collaboration agreement today, Monday, at the office Oneko has in Eltzia, Oñati. The signing ceremony was attended by Raul Garcia, president of Oneko, and Aritz Otxandiano, Head of Sustainability at Fagor Group. With this agreement, Fagor will make a contribution of 110,000 euros to the energy community, at a rate of ten euros per inhabitant, and will share its expertise in the operation of cooperatives and community projects.
The president of Oneko highlighted the significance of this agreement, stating it will provide the necessary economic stability to launch their projects and activities, and welcomed the knowledge and contributions from the Fagor Group. Meanwhile, the Head of Sustainability at Fagor Group emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in the energy transition, considering energy communities as the appropriate tool for this purpose.
The agreement is part of the Fagor 2030 sustainability strategy and reflects Fagor's commitment to contributing to the energy transition within its territory. In addition to Oneko, Fagor is also a supporting partner in other energy communities across the valley, including Ekiola (Arrasate, Aretxabaleta, and Eskoriatza), Ixotzenekoa (Elgeta), Berenerrekoa (Bergara), and Esnargikoa (Eskoriatza).
Aritz Otxandiano believes that Oñati possesses favorable conditions for this initiative to succeed, owing to its tradition and track record in the energy sector. Oneko was founded in September 2025 and currently has 48 members. They will present their first project, a photovoltaic installation, on July 8th at the cinema hall of the cultural center in Oñati.
