“"I only open in the mornings on holidays. The only day I don't open is Sunday because it's my day off. And I take it no matter what."
The store manager points out that his business's market niche is different from others found in this area of the Vizcayan capital. People are out for a walk here, and sometimes they stop, see the window display, and come in, which helps attract new customers.
On the eve of Mother's Day, the establishment offers customers items to congratulate mothers. Opening on a day like today can help many buy that gift. The owner states that the store is open, although he admits he hopes it will be worth working on such a day.
The decision to work on a holiday is made due to his self-employed status, but he does not advertise that his establishment changes its hours for the holiday. He mentions that he doesn't post anywhere that he opens on holidays and expresses happiness about the close relationship with consumers. During the week, he closes at eight in the evening, but if a customer comes in at eight, he will attend to them with his best smile. It has never mattered to him, neither when he was an employee nor as a self-employed individual.
