The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has appointed Florence Ostende, an art historian and curator, as its new Director of Programs and Artistic Content following an international selection process.

Ostende, who brings a strong international background in modern and contemporary art, will join the museum's team to enhance its artistic vision and strategic content development. She will oversee the areas of Exhibitions and Conservation, Curatorial, and Education and Interpretation, as well as Collection development, and will be part of the Management Committee.
Her professional experience includes curating major exhibitions, managing artistic teams, and fostering international collaborations, with a focus on public engagement and content accessibility. Previously, she directed the Artistic Department at the Mudam – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (Luxembourg) from 2024 to 2026. Prior to that, she served as a curator at the Barbican Art Gallery in London between 2016 and 2024, where she gained international acclaim for her critically supported exhibitions.

"It is an honor for me to join the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao at a time of profound transformation for museums and the communities they serve. I am eager to work hand-in-hand with the exceptional team of the Museum to shape a bold artistic program that honors its remarkable legacy and embraces the possibilities and uncertainties of our future."
