Bilbao and Badajoz to hit Spain's highest temperatures at 38 degrees on Wednesday

Following intense heat on Wednesday and Thursday, a significant temperature drop is expected on Friday.

Bilbao and Badajoz will be the hottest spots in Spain this Wednesday, reaching 38 degrees, with a notable drop expected on Friday.

Bizkaia will bid farewell to May, but not with the infernal heat that has scorched the region this week. According to AEMET, Bilbao and Badajoz will mark Spain's highest temperatures this Wednesday, reaching 38 degrees. Temperatures will remain high on Thursday, but the expected change will arrive on Friday: a 10-degree drop in 24 hours.
AEMET has described this spring heatwave episode as "more typical of July or August." The warm air mass from Africa has brought days of splendid sunshine but intense mugginess, both day and night. Early Monday morning, several towns in Bizkaia exceeded 25 degrees, making it very difficult for many people to sleep.
This past night was somewhat more bearable, but for tomorrow night, AEMET forecasts 20 degrees again in the interior of Bizkaia and 19 on the coast. Today will once again be a very torrid day. It is worth remembering that the Basque Government has activated a yellow alert for extreme temperatures for this Wednesday and Thursday in the province's interior, where the mercury could approach 40 degrees.
In contrast, along the coast, temperatures will hover around 30-32 degrees on both days. "Late this afternoon, a west-northwesterly wind could establish itself in parts of Bizkaia, especially those closest to the coast, which will slightly alleviate the thermometers," indicates the Euskalmet report.
On Friday, however, the situation will change. The drop in mercury will be significantly felt. Bilbao will go from a high of 38 degrees to 29, and Getxo from 31 to 23. The rest of the peninsula will continue to experience considerable heat. The State Meteorological Agency has announced that a "return to normality will still take a few days."
However, a change will occur on the Cantabrian coast, bringing the much-needed respite. The wind will settle from the northwest in the morning on the coast and from the north inland, causing temperatures to drop. And for the weekend? Saturday will bring further easing. Meteorological models point to a new thermal decrease - 25 degrees are forecast in Bilbao - and intermittent clouds that could bring some storms.
