This project, covering more than 4,500 square meters, is expected to last twelve months. Its goal is to meet residents' needs and enhance the quality of the environment. The urban renewal efforts will encompass Kirikiño Square itself, as well as Reyes Católicos, Irala, Zuberoa, and Lapurdi streets.
“"The premise is to rethink the square as a more versatile, sustainable, and environmentally higher-quality space."
Works in Kirikiño Square and its vicinity will include renewing pavements, implementing new waterproofing systems, and adapting urban services. Additionally, new seating areas, a renovated inclusive children's play area, calisthenics spaces, and bio-healthy equipment will be added. The underground car park beneath the square complicates the construction of a cover for use in adverse weather conditions due to foundation issues. However, a small foundation will be left in the area not occupied by the garage for a potential future pergola.
Furthermore, the presence of vegetation and trees will be reinforced to promote outdoor activities in the square. Regarding the streets, sidewalks on Kirikiño Avenue will be widened, paving will be renewed, and pedestrian traffic will be improved. The current battery parking will also be changed to parallel parking. A new elevator connecting the avenue with Irala Street has already been tendered for this same road.
All planned actions will foster a more accessible environment, creating routes suitable for all citizens, with new ramps and adapted elements. It is worth noting that the square has a 2% slope towards Kirikiño Avenue, while Reyes Católicos Street has an 8% downward slope to Irala Street.
