The Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao has unveiled its new Arriaga Atrium, a significant milestone in its architectural transformation, described as a national infrastructure and a bridge between generations.

The Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao has unveiled its new Arriaga Atrium, one of the most significant milestones in the institution's architectural transformation and a space set to become the museum's heart.
Ibone Bengoetxea, First Deputy Lehendakari and Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy, attended the presentation. Bengoetxea highlighted the symbolic value of the new atrium, presided over by Francisco Durrio's Monumento a Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga. She stated that the Arriaga Atrium represents "a bridge between past and future, between generations, between the memory that has brought us here and the ambition with which we want to build tomorrow".
The minister praised the museum's future projection while maintaining its connection to history. Bengoetxea noted that the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao "is not just a museum; it is a national infrastructure".
She also emphasized the institutional collaboration that made the project possible. The new Arriaga Atrium will open its doors to the public on June 24th, serving as a preview of the museum's full reinauguration planned for the autumn.
