The initiative, promoted by Bilbao Zerbitzuak, aims to enhance the value of the necropolis's historical, artistic, and landscape heritage through painting. The competition will run from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM, during which participants must create an original work inspired by the cemetery's various corners.
This event is part of Bilbao Zerbitzuak's cultural commitment to fostering artistic creation and highlighting the pictorial expression and historical richness of the municipal cemetery, as emphasized by the Councilor for Health and Consumption, Álvaro Pérez.
The best creations will compete for three prizes: first place with €1,000, second with €500, and third with €300, plus an honorable mention of €250. Completed works must be submitted at the Cemetery Chapel between 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM. The winners will be announced at 2:30 PM, and their works will become part of the Bilbao Zerbituak art collection.
The artworks should reflect funerary art in its broadest sense, with special attention to the monumental, artistic, landscape, and symbolic elements of the site. The contest also seeks to capture the sense of calm and harmony characteristic of this space.
Registration is open until 10:00 AM on Friday, June 12th, via the Bilbao Zerbitzuak website. Any technique is permitted (oil, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media), but photographic and digital creations are excluded. Each participant may submit only one work, which must be created outdoors during the contest.
