Vice-Lehendakari Bengoetxea has lauded Norman Foster's transformative capacity for the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, emphasizing his forward-looking vision and preservation of identity.
The expansion, designed by Foster and Luis María Uriarte, adds 6,000 square meters and connects the museum's historic buildings with the new architectural volume.

The meeting also served to introduce the sculpture Pila de libros Safo (Pile of Books Sappho) by Anselm Kiefer, donated by Norman and Elena Foster to the Museum, located in Plaza Museo. Foster himself shared his vision for this new chapter of the institution.
“"You have given us your work, this building, that is evident. But you have given us something more: the demonstration that a city can transform itself by looking to the future and, at the same time, preserve what makes it unique and recognizable."
Bengoetxea thanked the Foster family for this donation, underlining that their contribution goes beyond the building itself.
