The Basque Government has approved a 7 million euro grant program to support professional media outlets, combat disinformation, and promote media literacy across the region.

The initiative, approved by the Governing Council on July 28, aims to ensure the public's right to receive rigorous and verified information. It seeks to strengthen the social role of journalism in the face of current digital challenges.
The funding is structured into two lines. The first, with 6 million euros, is aimed at generalist media operating within the Basque Country. The second, with 1 million euros, is dedicated to local and regional media, recognizing their essential role in territorial cohesion and information pluralism.
The grants will fund projects focused on responsible journalism and training for vulnerable groups regarding digital risks. The official order will be published in the BOPV on August 7.
