During the last year, the crime rate in Barakaldo saw a 3.9% reduction, a figure municipal authorities have deemed positive. This decrease was analyzed during the police coordination committee meeting for the Left Bank and Mining Zone, held on April 17, 2026.

The meeting emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation between the Local Police and the Ertzaintza to provide a better response to citizens. In addition to the overall 3.93% drop in the crime rate, “strategic” offenses — those of greatest social concern — experienced a 9.11% decrease.

These figures were already included in the police report presented earlier this year. Authorities stated that they will continue to reinforce specific plans, such as those targeting businesses and the control of bladed weapons, to anticipate problems and ensure safety and coexistence in Barakaldo.
