The document, approved this Thursday, comprises 23 actions to be developed in Barakaldo over the next five years, stemming from citizen participation in a dozen sessions.
"Barakaldo had an urgent need for this Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. This Plan allows us to see where and how to act to make Barakaldo a more sustainable, accessible, and efficient city," stated Alba Delgado, councilor for Sustainable Development and Natural Environment of the Barakaldo City Council.
Through this plan, connections between the town's most distant neighborhoods will be improved. Several interchange points will be established across the city to facilitate smoother connections. The plan also includes the future creation of a specific ordinance to regulate the use of bicycles, electric scooters, and other personal mobility vehicles.
This roadmap also aims to address parking issues and introduce new initiatives, such as extending the operating hours of the intra-urban bus service, KBus. Furthermore, the creation of an Auzotaxi service is planned to complement KBus. These measures will enable Barakaldo to take a step forward in communications, with sustainability as a core principle. "Mobility is a key element for health and sustainability, promoting healthy lifestyles and more environmentally friendly urban development," concluded Delgado.
