Urban culture is once again celebrating its unique festival in Barakaldo with the international Break On Stage festival. This event will bring together numerous young street dance and breakdance artists in the town. The day, held on April 25, will feature the participation of groups from various parts of Bizkaia, as well as from Álava, Gipuzkoa, Navarra, Vigo, Barcelona, Madrid, and even from other countries such as France and Venezuela.
Herriko Plaza will host the breakdance qualifying rounds from 5:00 PM to 6:45 PM, in a 3-on-3 format with individual battles, for participants under 18 years old. Admission will be free and open to all residents, featuring live music thanks to several DJs. The main show will take place afterwards, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, at the theater. There, the best 'breakers' will compete, those who achieve the highest jury scores in the street duels, and the urban dance final will also be held.
In the children's category, for ages 8 to 12, the groups Ohanitas (Bilbao), Playground (Trapagaran), and Bambooinos (San Sebastián) will take the stage. In the junior category, for ages 12 to 16, Slipers (Durango), Legacy Breath (Pamplona), and Agatsu (Vitoria) will perform. Meanwhile, in the absolute category, for those over 16, the three finalists come from Bilbao: Elektrokat, Factoritos, and Mauloa. All of them successfully passed the qualifying stages, in which 98 groups and over a thousand young people participated.
“"Break On Stage will once again turn Barakaldo into a meeting point for urban culture, young talent, and creativity, consolidating its position as a benchmark."
The event at the theater will feature three exhibitions in addition to the finals. Tickets are on sale for between 9 and 12 euros. The Culture councilor highlighted that the festival consolidates Barakaldo as a benchmark for urban culture and young talent. The deputy of Basque Language, Culture, and Sports also emphasized the opportunity this event provides to showcase young talent and make culture accessible and shared.
Both institutions have provided their support to the event's organization, which has highlighted the great talent and quality that groups from Bilbao and nearby towns, such as Barakaldo and Erandio, have brought in recent years. It has been noted that these groups are winning many national championships and that the level has significantly increased.
