Barakaldo has taken a new step forward in its pioneering Universal Accessibility Plan. In this regard, yesterday morning the General Assembly of Accessibility of the industrial town was constituted, a body that will be very important both in the process of evaluating the progress of the document and in identifying future needs that may arise in the locality. This body will meet once a year and its function will be to monitor the actions foreseen in the plan, serve as a coordinating element between administrations, the associative fabric, and citizens, evaluate the degree of compliance with the document, and also identify new needs that arise and aspects to improve in the plan.
Thus, the first session of the General Assembly of Accessibility took place yesterday morning at the CIS Los Hermanos and the meeting was chaired by the mayor of Barakaldo, Amaia del Campo, bringing together more than fifty residents from the industrial town. “This Universal Accessibility Plan is not just a technical document. It is the result of active listening, shared work, and a common conviction: that Barakaldo must be a city where all people can develop their lives with autonomy, safety, and dignity,” declared the mayor of Barakaldo, who in this first session signed a document that reinforces the commitment of the Barakaldo City Council to work in various areas related to accessibility.
The General Assembly of Accessibility of Barakaldo includes representatives from social entities, organizations representing people with disabilities, members of various municipal departments, and several citizens.
Beyond holding this annual session, the General Assembly of Accessibility will organize four working groups that will address issues of interest for the daily life of the municipality. In this way, Barakaldo takes another step forward to consolidate its Universal Accessibility Plan, a document that will be in force until 2028, which includes a total of 94 actions to be developed and has a budget of eight million to make these projects a reality.
