The Arrigorriaga City Council has presented a new urban improvement project in the Lonbo neighborhood, aiming to revitalize this leisure environment and transform it into a more comfortable, accessible, and attractive place for all citizens. According to the Consistory, this action will have a budget of 391,911 euros, and work is expected to begin this summer.
Currently, this area features a small pond, various children's play zones, sports areas promoting physical activity, and a dog park for pets. Furthermore, it has become a frequently used passage and meeting point due to the presence of the bidegorri (cycle path), which significantly increases pedestrian and cyclist traffic in the area.
“"Given that some areas have remained without a defined use for years, we see the need for an intervention that allows us to enhance the space and better adapt it to current needs, promoting its use as a place for rest and stay."
The intervention includes the installation of a covered area with benches, providing shelter in both summer and winter. A public restroom will also be installed, which has been “one of the most requested demands by users of the area.” Additionally, a hammock zone for relaxation will be added, and the dog park fence will be renovated, “fostering better coexistence and greater safety.”
Municipal sources have emphasized that this work will allow for “the recovery of underutilized areas and their transformation into more pleasant, functional spaces designed for the daily life of citizens.” This environment, which for decades housed the historic La Papelera Española factory, will become “an open-air meeting point, promenade, and recreational area.”
