The Aperribai neighborhood in Galdakao inaugurated its fourth public elevator this Monday, following seven months of work and an investment of 1.3 million euros, to enhance accessibility in the area.

This new infrastructure connects numbers 9 and 25 of Aperribai street, and includes an intermediate stop at number 24, next to the school. The goal is to facilitate daily commutes for residents, moving towards a more accessible, connected, and adapted environment that meets the needs of its citizens.
Over the past six years, the Aperribai neighborhood has been equipped with a total of four elevators and a mechanical ramp, representing a total investment of approximately 4.3 million euros. The first two were launched in late 2020, the third in late 2022, and this fourth elevator now joins them. These actions have improved connectivity between key points in the neighborhood such as the health center, school, and fronton.

"This intervention represents a leap in the quality of life in Aperribai. And, considering that many elderly people live in the neighborhood, this action addresses the historical debt we had with accessibility in the neighborhood, which means an improvement in mobility."

The works also included urban improvements such as the reorganization of parking spaces, the renovation of public lighting, and an intervention in the playground area in the upper part of the neighborhood. José Luis Abelleira and Maite Biteri, representing the neighborhood association, expressed their satisfaction, highlighting that accessibility in the area was previously complicated and now residents will be able to reach the school or health center more easily.
For his part, Asier Egiraun, the Councilor for Urban Planning, noted that accessibility in the left side of the neighborhood had been resolved in recent years, but action was still needed in this part, emphasizing the importance of connecting public services in a neighborhood with such steep slopes.
