The Etxebarri City Council will celebrate its XI "Science, Technology, and Innovation Week" from November 9 to 13. This year, under the slogan "Science with purpose," the initiative takes a step further by allowing citizens themselves to choose the topics to be addressed, thereby bringing science and innovation closer to the public.
Since last July, residents have been able to propose and vote on topics of interest. Questions such as "How will climate change affect Bizkaia?", "What happens in our brain if we are constantly connected to our mobile phone?", or "Why is it increasingly difficult for us to concentrate?" have been the most popular. Based on these results, the council has prepared a program that will also aim to address all remaining citizen concerns throughout 2027 through workshops and talks.
Through this annual initiative, the City Council aims to bring scientific outreach and culture to the entire population, breaking down the barrier that leads many people to believe these activities "are not for them." Therefore, the program focuses on open, accessible, and engaging proposals, designed for all ages and without requiring prior knowledge.
Over twenty activities will take place during the science week, with the majority concentrated on November 13. Additionally, from November 10 to 22, the City Hall Square will host the traveling exhibition "The Day of Two Sunsets," which will allow for a deeper understanding of the eclipse experienced on August 12.
Pre-registration for most activities will be open from October 29 at www.cimenet.net. All registrations are free, and places are limited on a first-come, first-served basis.
