The BAM University School of Education is embarking on a new phase starting in September 2027, with its operations moving to 36 Campo Volantín promenade in Bilbao, adjacent to the La Salve bridge. The academic center anticipates commencing activities at this new location once the refurbishment works are completed. According to sources from the Diocese of Bilbao, “the new location will allow the educational project to be consolidated in a more accessible, connected, and adapted environment to current teaching and research needs”.
The new Bilbao headquarters occupies a plot of 1,128 square meters, with nearly 4,000 square meters of constructed space distributed across two buildings for educational use. Leire Garamendi, the institution's deputy director, explains that “this decision strengthens BAM's contribution to the educational system, ensuring quality teacher training and a commitment to society”. The relocation from Derio to Bilbao will bring improvements for students, faculty, and research, “with more flexible, luminous spaces prepared for collaborative work. Furthermore, new opportunities for integration into the city's university and cultural environment are offered”.
“"This decision strengthens BAM's contribution to the educational system, ensuring quality teacher training and a commitment to society."
The Diocese of Bilbao emphasized that BAM's move to Campo Volantín does not alter the planned project for the future single headquarters in Barrainkua. In this regard, José Miguel Erdozain, diocesan manager, stated that “the decision to relocate BAM does not modify the planned development for the project”. He added that “the commitment to concentrate the educational, social, cultural, and pastoral services of the Church in Bizkaia in a single space to leverage their synergies is maintained”. However, he clarified that “the appropriate adaptations derived from this new situation will be made”.
The Diocese recalled that BAM, with 75 years of experience, has trained over 10,000 teachers —offering degrees in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and a Double Degree in Primary Education— and is currently developing its 2025-2030 Strategic Plan to maintain its position in an increasingly complex educational context and “respond solidly and responsibly to future challenges”. This roadmap, as specified, focuses on updating its training offerings, boosting research, and strengthening its relationship with the educational community.
