The Zumarraga City Council has launched the second edition of the ZuekinGAZTE voucher campaign. The initiative aims to boost consumption in the local commerce and Market, attracting young people to the town's establishments and strengthening their habit of shopping there in the future. These objectives align with the work lines of the Sustainable Urban Economy Strategic Plan of Zumarraga for 2030.
The campaign was presented at a press conference by Rosa Maiza, Councilor for Economic Promotion, and Iñaki Mendiluce, Councilor for Youth, who shared data from the first edition in 2025 and details of this year's campaign. Last year, 808 young people received a 30 euro voucher, of which 737 were used, directly channeling 21,330 euros to local establishments. An economic impact of 49,496 euros was calculated.
This year, the City Council will make 1329 vouchers of 30 euros available to young people, with a total budget of 39,870 euros. The campaign will reach 70% of eligible young people, and 30 shops and service establishments, along with 2 Market stalls, will participate. The initiative is projected to generate 93,295 euros in economic activity in the town.
Rosa Maiza referred to the current challenges of local commerce and the municipal strategic plan: «Consumption habits are changing, and local commerce must adapt to new realities. The Sustainable Urban Economy Strategic Plan for 2030 includes dynamizing local commerce and promoting sustainable consumption among its work lines. Through ZuekinGAZTE, we want young people to discover everything that Zumarraga's shops and the Market offer and to consider them in their daily purchases».
For his part, Iñaki Mendiluce, Councilor for Youth, highlighted the importance of youth participation: «We want these 30 euros to be more than a one-off purchase. We want the campaign to serve as an opportunity for young people to discover establishments they may not know and to see the possibility of shopping there in the future».
The vouchers will be distributed from November 5th to 7th at the kiosk located at Piedad street, number 16. Young people born between 1991 and 2008 are eligible, provided they are registered in Zumarraga before October 1st, 2026. Each person can receive only one 30 euro voucher, while stocks last. The voucher will be divided into two parts of 5 euros and two of 10 euros, and can be used from November 5th to December 31st for purchases made by the holder.
The list of participating establishments will be available from November 4th on the website www.zumarraga.eus and on Zumarraga Berrikusi.
