With the aim of recognizing, preserving, and valuing the heritage of its traditional commerce, Ordizia has organized the initiative "Comercios de siempre, el tesoro de Ordizia". This event is part of the European Heritage Days theme, "Heritage in danger", and seeks to focus attention on elements that are part of collective memory and need to be known and passed on to new generations.
The initiative will revolve around the exhibition "Comercios de siempre, el tesoro de Ordizia", which can be visited at the D’Elikatuz Zentroa from October 7th to November 8th. The exhibition will gather photographs, stories, and testimonies related to various shops in the town, offering an opportunity to trace the evolution of Ordizia's commerce and learn about the people behind these establishments. The exhibition will highlight the trajectory of shops that have been active for over 50 years, recalling their contribution to the economic, social, and daily life of the municipality.
As a complement to the exhibition, a round table will be held on Wednesday, October 7th, at 13:30, at the D’Elikatuz Zentroa. Here, the history of local commerce will be explored through the experiences and memories of four individuals linked to traditional establishments in Ordizia: Maria Antonia Arratibel (Aguirre Zapatadenda), Nikolas Lasa (Lasa Harategia), Alberto Ajuria (Vicuña Confección), and Carmen Esnaola (Zabale belardenda). During the discussion, they will share their experiences and recollections, and discuss the evolution of commerce in Ordizia, the changes over recent decades, and the role shops have played in the town's life.
Through this initiative, traditional commerce is recognized as part of Ordizia's heritage, valuing not only the establishments but also the stories, knowledge, relationships, and memories generated around them. The City Council invites citizens to visit the exhibition and participate in the round table to discover an important part of Ordizia's recent history.
