The Urretxu Zumarraga Ikastola and the Katxalin association have launched a solidarity project to support women affected by breast cancer.

Urretxu Zumarraga Ikastola, in collaboration with the Katxalin association, has developed a meaningful solidarity project. Sixth-grade students and their teachers have created encouraging messages, bookmarks, and heart-shaped crafts for individuals battling breast cancer.
The initiative, originating from the ikastola as part of its annual solidarity projects, highlights the significant value of dedicating time and effort to a cause, beyond financial contributions. The schoolchildren have actively engaged with Katxalin to support those affected by the disease.
The project unfolded in several phases. It began with an informative talk about breast cancer, where students actively participated by asking questions. This was followed by a craft session, where students sewed heart-shaped keychains alongside Katxalin volunteers.
A central part of the project involved the students creating bookmarks adorned with messages of encouragement. These, along with the 'heart' pillows being made in Katxalin's workshops in Zumarraga, will be delivered to the Donostia Hospital's Mother and Child Hospital for distribution to women undergoing treatment.
Katxalin has publicly expressed its gratitude for the commitment, sensitivity, and solidarity demonstrated by all the students and their teachers, recognizing them as an example of how to foster mutual support values within the classroom.
