Students from Urretxu-Zumarraga ikastola and Izarraizpe public ikastola in Azpeitia have won the BERRIA Ikasgela awards, with their projects presented at the Martin Ugalde cultural park.

Communication projects created by students from Urretxu-Zumarraga ikastola and Izarraizpe ikastola in Azpeitia have won the BERRIA Ikasgela awards. A total of fifteen schools and 50 classrooms participated in the competition. The awards were presented yesterday at the Martin Ugalde cultural park.
Begoña Pedrosa, the Basque Government's Minister of Education, and Amagoia Mujika, director of the BERRIA newspaper, were present with the young students from the DBH 4C class at Izarraizpe and the DBH 1B class at Urretxu-Zumarraga. The students conducted a collective interview, and a rap artist livened up the event.
The communication project by the DBH 1B class at Urretxu-Zumarraga ikastola has been interdisciplinary, bridging the subjects of Euskera (Basque language) and Society. The students took a historical event and explored what might have happened if it hadn't occurred, creating stories and comics.
As explained by students Ekhi Oiartzabal, Maialen Elorza, Maider Aranzadi, and Danel Araiztegi, after delving into the event, they used the textual organizers learned in their Euskera class for the writing process.
