This action continues the modernization strategy initiated four years ago under the umbrella of the Ordizia 2030 Action Plan. The main objective is to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% and make the lighting system much more efficient.
According to municipal forecasts, the new lighting will allow for an energy consumption reduction of at least 75%. In addition to saving on electricity bills, the Council expects to see a reduction in maintenance costs, as LED systems are more durable and require less technical attention.
Operators will be deployed across different areas of the town to carry out these works. Among the identified intervention points are the San Bartolomé neighborhood, Egutera road, Santa Ana car park, the exit to the N-I road, as well as Sanperio, Arana, and Arramendi streets, among other sectors of the municipality.
Within this deployment, the City Council has focused on the Joseba Rezola promenade. The intervention there aims to go beyond simple renovation; in addition to changing existing lamps, three new streetlights will be installed to enhance safety in the area. This improvement will be completed in a second phase throughout this year with the placement of two additional streetlights in front of buildings number 6 and 8, completing a total of five new luminaires on the promenade.
With this new batch of works, Ordizia continues to advance in its energy transformation. Currently, the municipality's lighting census amounts to 1,530 light points. After this intervention, 83.8% of the network, a total of 1,282 luminaires, will already feature LED technology. Therefore, 16.2% remains pending (247 luminaires), a figure that the Council expects to complete gradually in the coming years, with the goal of achieving a fully efficient, safer, and more sustainable municipality before the end of the decade.
