The associative fabric of Legazpi welcomes a new group, 'Mundutik Legazpira'. This sociocultural association, formed by nine founding members, aims to foster coexistence among the diverse cultures and nationalities residing in the municipality.
The group's origin traces back to the recovery of the 'Intercultural Day' two years ago in Legazpi. During that event, individuals from various backgrounds living in the municipality felt the need to strengthen ties. Subsequently, driven by the Town Council and Hotz Legazpi, they were asked to assist in welcoming newly registered residents, offering them a 'piece of their homeland' and guidance in exploring the town. This led to the creation of the 'ambassadors', a group that now comprises thirteen people. Some of them have decided to take a further step by officially forming an association to solidify their work.
Currently, people from 52 different countries live in Legazpi. 'Mundutik Legazpira' seeks to enhance this diversity, using Basque language and culture as its foundation. Their goal is for migrant cultures to transition from being 'guests' to active 'protagonists' alongside the local population.
Among the association's objectives are: welcoming newcomers to the municipality and facilitating their integration; creating a space for mutual exchange and support; organizing workshops, talks, and cultural events to promote dialogue and citizen awareness; and acting as a liaison with the local administration to design a common agenda for the municipality.
The current board of directors and driving group of the association include: Karen Suyapa Salgado Zeledón (Nicaragua), Jeovany Joseph Martínez Soliman (Honduras), Tkeira Bumorah Tahri (Western Sahara), Mariana Eguibar Brigante (Venezuela), Mohamad Zaki Ahmad Bibi (Pakistan), Karen Yurani Montes Castillo (Colombia), Alan Nicolás Diaz (Argentina), Sonia Horrego Rodríguez (Cuba), and Leannetty Elizabeth Cuello Matos (Dominican Republic).
The group has indicated that, as they do not yet have an official tax identification number (CIF), they have started with these nine founding members. However, once the official registration is formalized, the association will be open to all citizens, allowing active participation from anyone interested. A formal presentation will be held upon obtaining the definitive registration.
They have also announced the 'World Dances' workshop, organized in collaboration with Korosti and 'Mundutik Legazpira'. It began on June 4th and will take place on Thursdays in June and July. There will be a break in August. The schedule is from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and the session may extend depending on the activity's dynamics.
The initial rhythms and dances to be explored include: Basque dance (led by Korosti Dantza Taldea), Saharan dance, merengue, salsa, African rhythms, bachata, and Cuban dances. It is a dynamic and participatory workshop designed for exchanging experiences and fostering valuable cultural exchange.
The course is open to people of all ages, from children to seniors, aiming to create an inclusive space where everyone can enjoy, learn, and express themselves through dance.
