The Lazkaomendi neighborhood will be filled with a festive atmosphere this weekend, with celebrations arriving after the San Prudencio festivities. This year, hundreds of people are expected to attend and enjoy a diverse program featuring popular culture, sports, music, and tradition.
The festivities will officially begin today, May 8, at 6:00 PM, with the launch of the chupinazo at the Lartxai Society. From that moment, Lazkaomendi will be filled with joy, and on this first day, attendees can enjoy big-headed figures, a talo workshop, and a karaoke session.
Tomorrow, May 9, sports will take center stage with a pelota championship in the morning and a traditional Basque sports challenge in the afternoon. In the evening, after the performance by Iker Sukia and Aritz Markinez, DJ Oixani's session will extend the party until dawn. On Sunday, May 10, nature and culture will be highlighted with a mountain hike in the morning and children's games, followed by performances from the Lazkao Txiki Music School and the Oin Arin Dance Group, enhancing the presence of Basque culture.
Among the afternoon events, the magician Thor will offer a magic show, followed by one of the program's most significant moments: an exhibition by aizkolaris (woodchoppers), bertsolaris (improvised poets), and trikitilaris (accordion players). This session will feature Haritz Goena and Joanes Izagirre, Iban Urdangarin and Iker Zubeldia, and Gari Lizarraga and Iñaki Larrañaga, providing a direct display of Basque tradition.
As a prelude to these festivities, on May 2, the 50th Lazkaomendi Cycling Race was held, where cyclists who have been winners in its five decades of history were honored, warming up the festive atmosphere.
To facilitate mobility, a special bus service will be launched tomorrow, May 9. This service will connect the Lazkao Post Office stop (Hirigoien 34) with Lazkaomendi. Departures from Lazkao will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and returns will be offered between 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM, making travel easier for residents and visitors. The City Council has invited everyone to attend the festivities, recommending the use of public transport to ensure safety, comfort, and sustainability.
