Lazkao will host a solidarity event this Saturday, May 30th, bringing together local cultural, social, and political groups for a day of music, gastronomy, and advocacy for Palestine.

The town of Lazkao will rally this Saturday, May 30th, for a solidarity event in favor of Palestine. This initiative is driven by the collective Lazkao Palestina Herri Ekimenak, formed last September with the aim of building a solidarity network and denouncing the situation faced by the Palestinian people.
The group has previously organized actions such as selling solidarity merchandise and fundraising, alongside two informational talks. The first, in collaboration with the Mundubat Foundation, addressed how aid to Palestine is channeled. The second featured Palestinian Mohamamad Farajallah, who shared a direct perspective on his people's reality under the title 'Palestine, a people that wants to live as masters of their land'.
Following these initial efforts, the collective decided to organize a full day of activities. Although initially intended for the entire Goierri region, the event is now centered in Lazkao, while the invitation extends to the whole region. The program is designed to attract all ages, blending culture, protest, and coexistence, starting with street animation and a participatory storytelling session of a tale by a young Gazan author.
Gastronomy will be featured with a tasting of falafel pintxos, followed by a performance by the Palestinian group Watani and local group Oin Arin. A central moment will be the popular community meal (20 euros, 15 euros for students and unemployed), for which advance ticket purchase is requested. After the meal, Palestinian singers Ahmed and Nur will perform, accompanied by the Lazkao Txiki music school and artist Leire Agirre. The group Erdoyik P and the talogileak from JTK will also perform later.
The organizers highlight the current context: since October 2023, over 72,600 people have died and more than 172,000 have been injured in Gaza, with over a thousand deaths in the West Bank due to violence from military and settlers. Widespread destruction, hunger, and the blockade of humanitarian aid exacerbate the crisis.
The collective emphasizes the need for active civil society involvement and calls on the citizens of Lazkao and Goierri to participate and send a clear message of solidarity.
A key aspect of the initiative is its collective nature, involving numerous local entities such as Oin Arin dantza taldea, Lazkao Txiki music school, the Ikastola, Maizpide, EH Bildu, Sortu, the Gazte Asanblada, group Kimu, association Gerriko, comparsas, JTK, the batukada, the feminist collective, and Lazkao Anitza. The Town Council has also provided organizational support.
The organization is seeking volunteers for tasks such as setup, serving food, and cleaning. Interested individuals can contact the Lazkao Palestina group.
