Lazkao will celebrate the second edition of the Intercultural Festival this Friday, May 22nd, an initiative aimed at highlighting the municipality's diversity and strengthening ties among its residents. For two and a half hours, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, the town square will host a varied program for all audiences, focusing on participation and cultural exchange.
The festival aims to showcase the multicultural reality of Lazkao, where people from up to 29 countries currently reside. The event seeks to create genuine meeting spaces for sharing customs, learning about different ways of life, and fostering coexistence based on respect and curiosity.
The program includes a parade featuring traditional clothing from various countries. Following this, there will be more participatory activities, especially for children, such as a Mexican piñata and a sack race. Additionally, workshops will be offered, including henna application, a deeply rooted tradition, and gastronomic workshops.
A dedicated culinary space will host a workshop to learn how to prepare both the traditional Basque talo and msmen (Moroccan talo). Music and dance will also be featured with performances from Ecuador and Nicaragua.
To conclude, attendees can enjoy a tasting of typical food and drinks from countries including Nicaragua, Colombia, Morocco, Romania, Mexico, and the Basque Country. This initiative is a collaboration between the City Council, Lazkaoko Ikastola, and the association Lazkao Anitza.
