This recognition was chosen from citizen proposals, and Judo Legazpi received two nominations this year. One of these nominations highlighted the club's work in teaching and transmitting to children and young people, beyond sports, values such as respect, humility, friendship, teamwork, tolerance, motivation, and discipline.
The other proposal, meanwhile, focused on the club's 40th anniversary, stating that this award would be the most fitting way to acknowledge the work carried out over all those years. The award ceremony will take place on the main day of Santikutz, following the traditional ezpata-dantza, in an event featuring the dancers from the Sustraiak group and the txistularis from Goiz Deia.
“"For teaching and transmitting to the children and youth of Legazpi, in addition to sports, the following daily values: respect, humility, friendship, teamwork, tolerance, motivation, and discipline."
Judo arrived in Legazpi in 1974, and the Judo Legazpi club was officially established on March 23, 1986. Initially, training took place in the gymnasium of the Haztegi ikastola, and in 1985, they moved to the new Bikuña sports center. The club has a long history and has become a local sports benchmark, having trained numerous children and young people and participated in high-level championships, such as the international Legazpi Herria tournament.
Due to the pandemic, the club's activities returned to the Haztegi ikastola gymnasium, where they continue to operate today.
