The Gipuzkoa Provincial Council intends to expand its network of cycling paths (bidegorris) with a new section connecting Beasain and Idiazabal, passing through the municipality of Olaberria, aiming to promote cycling as a mode of transport.

This project involves a 3.29-kilometer extension, and the Provincial Council anticipates an investment of approximately 6 million euros for its construction. This new cycling route will run parallel to the N-I road, next to the Castillo Hotel, and will enable workers from the Olaberria industrial estate, including large companies like ArcelorMittal, to commute by bicycle.
Currently, about 200 meters have been constructed, with the entire section expected to be completed during the next legislative term, between 2028 and 2031. The tender budget for the project's drafting amounts to 139,220 euros, plus 29,236 euros for VAT, totaling 168,456 euros.
To advance sustainable transport and encourage bicycle use, the Department of Sustainability will allocate nearly 7 million euros this year to aid and subsidies for ecological transition. Of this, 971,000 euros are specifically for cycling mobility, divided into three areas: 800,000 euros for municipal aid to develop local bidegorri networks and acquire cycling infrastructure; 100,000 euros for a new call for the daily cycling program in Gipuzkoa municipalities; and 71,000 euros for bicycle promotion activities by associations.
This year, new sections are planned to complement the existing cycling path, such as the one connecting Rekalde and Galarreta in Hernani, expected to be ready by the end of the year. Another key point is the bidegorri of the old Plazaola line, which will link Urnieta with Lasarte-Oria, scheduled for completion after the summer.
