A fire that erupted on Saturday afternoon in a central Ordizia building led to the displacement of fourteen residents, though no injuries were reported, and two Ertzaintza officers were hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

The blaze, which originated in the chimney of the Chapel-Gorri gastronomic society, located at Garagartza Square 1, spread throughout the four-story building. This forced fourteen residents from the upper floors to spend the night away from their homes.
According to the Department of Security of the Basque Government, the incident began around 5:00 PM on Saturday. Smoke and flames permeated the entire structure, prompting emergency teams to evacuate the residents. Fortunately, no one was injured, but two Ertzaintza officers who responded to the scene inhaled smoke and were taken to the hospital, being discharged later that night.

"The City Council made accommodation available at the Hotel Ordizia for displaced residents who required it."

Firefighters from the Goierri park were dispatched to Garagartza Square to evacuate the building and extinguish the fire. While residents of the first and second floors were able to return to their homes that same night, those on the two upper floors, most affected by the fire, are awaiting a technical inspection to ensure the stability and safety of the structure.
