The Department of Sustainability of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa has finalized the solar lighting project for the bidegorri connecting Alegia and Itsasondo, covering 6.77 kilometers with an investment of 437,750 euros.

This initiative involved the installation of 169 solar luminaires, significantly improving the safety and accessibility of the bidegorri section between Legorreta and Itsasondo. This ensures continuity for the cycling and pedestrian corridor linking Alegia, Ikaztegieta, Legorreta, and Itsasondo.

"With the completion of this section, we conclude a strategic project that improves the safety and quality of life for citizens, while advancing in the energy transition and decarbonization of Gipuzkoa through the use of renewable energies."

The newly inaugurated section between Legorreta and Itsasondo spans approximately 1,730 meters and features 57 solar light points, spaced every 30 meters on straight sections and every 25 meters on curves. The work was completed in three months, from November 2025 to February of this year, with a total investment of 145,415.94 euros.
The installed luminaires operate on solar energy and utilize efficient 10W LED technology with 1,750 lumens, narrow optics, and a warm color temperature of 3,000k. This design helps reduce light pollution and minimizes environmental impact. Additionally, they include a programmable regulation system to optimize energy consumption through automatic on/off functions and light intensity adjustment.
The implemented solution consists of integrated "all-in-one" solar streetlights, which combine the photovoltaic module, battery, luminaire, support, and mast into a single autonomous unit. This system eliminates the need for trenches or electrical conduits, thereby reducing the environmental impact of the construction and promoting a more efficient and sustainable installation.

"Beyond the positive impact it will have in terms of sustainable mobility, it is especially important that residents of the Berostegi neighborhood can now travel to the urban center more safely."

The Mayor of Legorreta

"An increasing number of people use this bidegorri, especially on foot, both walking and running. Many of them cannot take advantage of this infrastructure during the day, so its lighting greatly enhances safety and ease of use for such a demanded activity."
