The electric car sharing service promoted by the Beasain City Council and the company Guppy has achieved over 230 rentals and 28,500 kilometers in less than a year, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility. Deputy Mayor Adur Ugartemendia presented the results yesterday at the Gipuzkoa Energy Conference held at the Naturklima Auditorium in Donostia.
The service was launched in April 2025 in the parking area of Gernika promenade, starting with two vehicles (Tesla Model 3) and currently expanded to four (including a new Renault Zoe), aiming to address local and interurban mobility gaps and intermodality.
According to the data presented by Ugartemendia, the service has been used by 54 different users, with 60% being repeat customers. A total of 230 rentals have been registered, covering more than 28,500 kilometers. 76% of rentals were round trips (175), with an average distance of 89 km and a duration of 7 hours per rental.
The service has also facilitated strategic connections, primarily with Donostia and Loiu Airport, as well as for occasional trips to Madrid or Cantabria.
With the goal of decarbonizing mobility, the City Council offers a flexible complement to public transport, avoiding the fixed costs of ownership. Furthermore, thanks to the new tender, the service is now 50% cheaper and is the first car sharing application that can be contracted and used in Basque.
All vehicles are located in the strategic parking area of Gernika promenade, close to the train and bus stations, and their charging points use electricity from 100% renewable sources.
