The Gipuzkoa Provincial Council will invest €240,000 in Goierri's energy model during 2026 and 2027. The Deputy for Sustainability, Jose Ignacio Asensio, has signed an agreement with ten regional development agencies, including Goieki and Uggasa. The investment will be divided between these two agencies, with each receiving €120,000.
Through this agreement, each agency will receive €60,000 annually to develop activities in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and the fight against energy poverty. Deputy Jose Ignacio Asensio emphasized that "with these agreements, we provide stability to the energy planning of the regions and strengthen a model of energy transition based on proximity, inter-institutional collaboration, and commitment to people".
The Department of Sustainability explained that each region will develop specific projects tailored to its reality. In Goierri, a regional energy and climate diagnosis will be carried out, the Regional Table of Energy Communities will be promoted, and sustainable mobility for businesses will be encouraged. Meanwhile, in Urola Garaia, a regional diagnosis on energy poverty, mobility studies, and training and specialization actions will be conducted.
Among the signatories of the agreement are Nagore Alkorta, coordinator of the Energy Table at Goieki, and Itziar Salaberria, president of Uggasa and mayor of Urretxu. Goieki is comprised of 18 municipalities, including Altzaga, Ataun, Beasain, Ordizia, and Zerain, among others. Uggasa, on the other hand, is the Socio-economic Development Agency created by the Urola Garaia Mancomunidad and includes Ezkio, Legazpi, Urretxu, and Zumarraga.
