At the XIX International Feline Exhibition, held at Ficoba in Irun on April 5, 2026, a black Persian cat named Titi claimed the top award. Its striking orange eyes and abundant, glossy black fur enchanted the jury, who declared it the best specimen of 2026. This calm feline garnered numerous accolades from both the public and other participants, allowing itself to be petted and admired without any complaint.
The elegant short-haired black Persian cat stood out among 130 specimens of 30 different breeds that competed in Irun over the past weekend. This edition featured 26 Siamese, Oriental, Balinese, Mandarin, and Peterbald cats in the competition, which concluded the two-day event. According to Marie Pascale Partarrieu, the event organizer, this year's theme was «the different nuances of blue cats, providing additional appeal for visitors».
“"This year, despite the difficulties encountered regarding the influx of breeders, we have had about forty exhibitors from France, Euskadi, and other communities in Spain."
The exhibition also offered a festive atmosphere with a solidarity market organized by Les Chamis de Mamie, where pet items were sold at affordable prices. The proceeds will go to help homeless cats in Hendaia. Although the event had a strong competitive nature, Partarrieu noted that it «also fulfills a socialization function», fostering interaction among breeders and cat enthusiasts.
Marie Pascale Partarrieu commented that «fashion also affects cat breeding». Currently, breeds like the Persian and Bengal have seen a decline in popularity, while breeds such as Main Coon and British Shorthair, known for their calm and affectionate nature, are among the most chosen options.
