Singer Maddi Oihenart and musician Juantxo Zeberio have collaborated again after fifteen years, releasing Lur, a new album inspired by the Gaza conflict, which will be presented on May 23 at Chillida Leku.

Artists Maddi Oihenart and Juantxo Zeberio have released a new album titled Lur, after fifteen years without a joint release. This new work is inspired by the situation caused by the war in Gaza and will be presented on May 23 at Chillida Leku.
The album's title, Lur, combines several meanings. On one hand, it emerged while they were working on songs in Angelu, where a studio space was known by that name. On the other hand, the dire situation and genocide in Palestine have deeply influenced the creative process, including songs that address this theme. Furthermore, the title refers to the connection between land and culture, also incorporating environmental themes, such as Eguzki xuri and Basotik harrobira.

"We have experienced the Palestinian genocide firsthand from the beginning. Although our last album together was in 2010, we have not lost contact."

The album is the result of a three-year process, although it has not been continuous work. For Oihenart, returning to the studio has always been something driven by another person, and this time was no different. It is the fruit of friendship and solidarity between both artists, and also an excuse to maintain the relationship between Gipuzkoa and Zuberoa.
The album features several collaborations, including Olaia Intziarte and Miren Narbaiza on the song Lili bat, and Julen Achiary on three tracks. Zeberio has emphasized that Oihenart's voice is the central axis of the work, and the instrumentation serves it, combining folk instruments and synthesizers, always with great respect for the voice.

"Maddi's voice doesn't need anything, but I am a musician. Music is a game, always in favor of the song."

Oihenart has highlighted the growing presence of women in Basque music, even in Zuberoa, which she finds gratifying. She also added that concerts are important windows for establishing relationships with the public and enriching oneself.
