Numerous citizens gathered to enjoy the program offered by the orchestra. The concert opened with the overture from Los esclavos felices by Juan Crisostomo Arriaga, commemorating the second centenary of the death of the Bilbao-born composer. This was followed by interpretations of the Adagietto from Gustav Mahler's 5th Symphony and the 1st Suite from Georges Bizet's Carmen.
Additionally, two former members of the EGO, clarinetists Silvia Ferro and Oihan Espina, performed as soloists with the orchestra. According to the organizers, the concert blended "Basque repertoire, romanticism, symphonic power, and some of the most famous pages in music history".
Yesterday's performance was the second of five concerts the Youth Orchestra will give in various towns across Euskal Herria. The tour began in Hondarribia and, after Azkoitia, will continue in Donostia, Bilbao, and Gasteiz.
