The Department of Tourism and Commerce of the Hondarribia City Council has opened the registration period until April 30 for the 2026 Medieval Pintxo Week and Competition, aiming to highlight local gastronomic creativity and promote the town's hospitality offerings.

This initiative invites professionals from hospitality establishments in Hondarribia that serve pintxos to participate. Each contestant must present a unique gastronomic proposal, inspired by the Middle Ages and designed to be eaten in two or three bites.
The pintxos must be prepared with ingredients available on the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages, allowing the use of products such as wheat, milk, eggs, meat, fish, mushrooms, or oil. Ingredients introduced after the discovery of America, such as potatoes, tomatoes, corn, peppers, or chocolate, are prohibited. The jury will particularly value the use of local produce.
Two prizes will be awarded: the popular jury prize, worth 200 euros, for the pintxo that receives the most public votes during Medieval Pintxo Week; and the Best Medieval Pintxo Award, worth 300 euros, granted by a professional jury. The latter will represent Hondarribia in the Medieval Pintxo Competition to be held in Valencia de Alcántara.
Participating establishments will offer their creations from May 29 to June 7, as part of Medieval Pintxo Week. Citizens and visitors will be able to taste the proposals and vote for their favorite. The winners will be announced from June 10 onwards, at an event to be held at the Hondarribia City Hall.
