Nearly 320,000 traffic fines were recorded on Euskadi's roads last year, with over 70% of them related to speeding, according to data from the Department of Security.

According to data published by the Department of Security of the Basque Government, the Gipuzkoan section of the AP-8 was the road that registered the most traffic fines in the entire Basque network last year, with a total of 33,813. These figures highlight Gipuzkoa as the territory where drivers most frequently violate traffic laws.
Among the roads with the highest number of penalties, the GI-20 as it passes through Donostia and the N-I in Gipuzkoan territory also stand out, with 22,597 and 22,000 fines respectively. In total, almost 320,000 traffic fines were recorded in Euskadi last year, with over 70% of these being for exceeding speed limits.
This section of the AP-8, combined with the 10,757 fines processed on the Bizkaian side, makes it the most penalized road in the Basque Autonomous Community, with a total of 44,570 complaints. In second place is the A-8, specifically the toll-free section between the Bilbao metropolitan area and Cantabria, which registered 43,378 fines last year.
On Gipuzkoan roads, a total of 124,204 fines were processed, slightly behind Bizkaia's 131,772 and significantly higher than the 64,013 penalties imposed in Álava. The most common reason for fines is speeding, accounting for 74% of all penalties in the territory in 2025. The second most frequent reason is the lack of registration and technical conditions of vehicles, with 10,412 fines.
